Thunderous balls in Reykjavik

and how an igloo saved my life

With Hrefna in my arms, my attention switched to getting out of the airport.

I had spent almost a full day inside the closed ecosystem of metal chairs and concrete floors and all I wanted was to sit on a sofa with a coffee, cigarette and Hrefna laid across my lap.

“Hrefna where’s the bus to leave?”

She turned around and walked in a straight direction.

I followed her for 30 seconds and she lead us to to a reception desk

She started speaking Icelandic to the tender

“Tvö rútumiðar til Reykjavíkur”

“Þetta er 45 mínútna ferð og fargjaldið er 20 pund fyrir hvert.”

I felt like I was in Lord of the Rings and had just pulled up to the land of Elves.

What the fuck did they just say?

Hrefna finished her conversation and said “Give me a couple of moments, I’m going to go call for help so we can get the bus”

“Okay girl”

Now I was having to play it cool

I was in an alien land, with an alien language, I had no money to smooth things over, I had no choice but to have faith it was all going to work.

I told myself that the hard part was already done “I’m with my girl, I have won and the vibes will lead the way.”

Hrefna walked back over

“2 miða takk”

She was swaying seductively and I could see her hips moving through her low-rise jeans.

This got me fairly excited and feeling impatient to start making love I started pinching the pockets on the back of her jeans and putting my fingers in her belt loops

I was distracting her from the bus sales person 😹

Then she turned around with full attention and said “we got the tickets, let’s go” with a big smile on her face

“Let’s goooo 😄”

I held her handbag and we headed out of the airport.

We got on the bus

I put Hrefna on the window seat

I took the one beside and turned to her

She was cornered with nowhere to go 😼
